Design a Wind Farm
Design a Wind Farm
Write a proposal to government officials for a new wind farm in your county. Choose the amount of land that will be occupied by your farm and the power of the turbines. Use functions and graphs to show the cost of the turbines and the total power generated. Relate the energy output of the wind farm to the amount of energy used in a typical household.
Energy (kWh) = Power (kW) x Time (h)
Did You Know?
- Wind is a form of solar energy caused by a combination of three concurrent events:
- The sun unevenly heating the atmosphere
- Irregularities of the Earth's surface
- The rotation of the Earth
- Modern vertical-axis wind turbines are omnidirectional, meaning they don't need to be adjusted to point into the wind to operate.
- Instead of using electricity to make wind, like a fan, wind turbines use wind to make electricity. The wind turns the blades, which in turn spins a generator to create electricity.
